George A. Papadopoulos (Ph.D.) holds the (tenured) rank of Professor in the Department of Computer Science. He has participated in a number of international and national projects both as a researcher or partner, and as a (co-)coordinator. He has been involved in the organisation and Program Committees of many international conferences and workshops, including serving as the Technical Program Chairman in the EURO-MED NET 98 conference (http://www.cordis.lu/infowin/acts/ienm/newsclips/arch1998/980299gr.html) whose purpose was to establish a strategy for forming an Information Society in the greater Mediterranean region. He was also one of the coordinators of the I.T. Node on Electronic Commerce in Cyprus and the coordinator of the Technical Consultancy team for the ISPO ESIS-II project for Cyprus and Egypt (http://europa.eu.int/ISPO/esis/default.htm). Professor Papadopoulos' research interests include component-based systems, mobile computing, multimedia systems, e-learning, open and distance learning, parallel programming and high performance computing, GRID technologies, electronic commerce, workflow management and CSCW. He has published over 100 papers as book chapters or in internationally refereed journals and conferences and he serves in the Editorial Board of 5 international journals. Professor Papadopoulos is a recipient of an 1995 ERCIM-HCM scholarship award. He has been involved or is currently participating, as coordinator or partner, in over 30 internationally and nationally funded projects (total budget for his participation more than 4 MEURO), including ten IST (in the areas of tele-medicine, component-based systems, bioinformatics, e-learning and Internet technologies), three EUMEDIS (in Open and Distance Learning), one INCO-DC, one eTen (in tele-medicine) and eight LEONARDO ones.
