Προσωπικό Προφίλ

Ο Δρ. Θωμάς Παπαδόπουλος είναι Λέκτορας Εμπορικού Δικαίου στο Τμήμα Νομικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (διορίστηκε τον Ιανουάριο του 2016). Έχει διατελέσει επισκέπτης ερευνητής στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Χάρβαρντ (2009-10).  Έλαβε Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα Νομικής (DPhil in Law) από τη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης, στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (2010). Έλαβε, επίσης,  Μεταπτυχιακό Δίπλωμα Νομικής (MJur/LLM, 2006) και Ερευνητικό Μεταπτυχιακό Δίπλωμα Νομικής (MPhil in Law, 2007) από τη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης. Είναι αριστούχος και πρωτεύσας απόφοιτος του Τμήματος Νομικής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης (2005). Είναι απόφοιτος του 1ου Γυμνασίου και του 1ου Λυκείου του Αμερικανικού Κολλεγίου Ανατόλια Θεσσαλονίκης (2001). Διδάσκει ως Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής στο Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο Ελλάδος, στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου και στο Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο. Επιπλέον, είναι Γραμματέας Σύνταξης(Editorial Secretary) του περιοδικού European Company Law (ECL) Journal, που εκδίδεται από τον εκδοτικό οίκο Kluwer. Είναι Δικηγόρος Ελλάδος.

Του απονεμήθηκε το «Κυπριακό Βραβείο Έρευνας – Νέος Ερευνητής 2014» για τη θεματική ενότητα «Κοινωνικές και Ανθρωπιστικές Επιστήμες» από το Ίδρυμα Προώθησης Έρευνας (ΙΠΕ) της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας. Η διάκριση αυτή του απονεμήθηκε για την έρευνα του σχετικά με τις δημόσιες προτάσεις εξαγοράς και τις συγχωνεύσεις εταιρειών και συνοδεύτηκε από ερευνητική χορηγία για σκοπούς συνέχισης της έρευνας. Είναι ο Συντονιστής του Ερευνητικού Προγράμματος με τίτλο “Takeovers and Mergers in European, Cypriot and Greek Company Law” το οποίο χρηματοδοτείται από το Ίδρυμα Προώθησης Έρευνας (ΙΠΕ) της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.

Έχει διατελέσει Λέκτορας (2011-15) και Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Εμπορικού Δικαίου (2015) στο Τμήμα Νομικής του  Ευρωπαϊκού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Επίσης, έχει διατελέσει Διδάσκων (ΠΔ 407/80) στο Τμήμα Περιφερειακής Οικονομικής Ανάπτυξης του Πανεπιστημίου Στερεάς Ελλάδας. Στη διάρκεια των σπουδών του, έλαβε υποτροφίες από το Ίδρυμα Α. Γ. Λεβέντη, από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης, από το Ελληνικό Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών (υποτροφίες ΝΑΤΟ), από το Ίδρυμα Δεσποτίδου-Τσάγκα και από το Ίδρυμα Κρατικών Υποτροφιών (ΙΚΥ). Επίσης, έχει διατελέσει Λέκτορας (part-time Lecturer), στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Buckingham, στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και Διδάσκων (Law Tutor) στο Oxford University Programme for Undergraduate Studies (OPUS) του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης. Επιπλέον, έχει διδάξει στο Τμήμα Στατιστικής και Ασφαλιστικής Επιστήμης του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιά. Έχει διατελέσει Ακαδημαϊκός Συντονιστής (Academic Coordinator) του Financial Law Discussion Group της Νομικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστήμιου της Οξφόρδης. Στη διάρκεια της στρατιωτικής του θητείας, διετέλεσε Βοηθός Νομικός Σύμβουλος (LEGAD) στο Στρατηγείο ΝΑΤΟ Θεσσαλονίκης/ Γ’ Σώμα Στρατού (NATO Deployable Corps Headquarters- NDC-GR). Συμμετείχε με διαλέξεις σε σεμινάρια τεχνικής βοήθειας και ανταλλαγής πληροφοριών(Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument (TAIEX)), που διοργανώθηκαν από τη Γενική Διεύθυνση Διεύρυνσης της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής

Είναι ο συγγραφέας του έργου ‘EU Law and the Harmonization of Takeovers in the Internal Market’, European Monographs Series, 2010, (Kluwer). Πολλά άρθρα και μελέτες του έχουν δημοσιευθεί σε κορυφαία διεθνή νομικά περιοδικά.

Profile Information

Dr. Thomas Papadopoulos is a Lecturer in Business Law at the Department of Law of the University of Cyprus (appointed in January 2016). Previously, he was also a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School (2009-10). He received his DPhil in Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford (2010). He received a degree of Magister Juris (MJur/LLM, 2006) and a degree of MPhil in Law (2007) from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. He also received his LLB with Distinction (ranked 1st) from the Department of Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2005). He is an alumnus of the Anatolia American College of Thessaloniki (2001). He is also a Visiting Professor at the International Hellenic University (Thessaloniki, Greece), at the Open University of Cyprus (Nicosia, Cyprus) and at the Hellenic Open University (Patras, Greece). Moreover, he is an Editorial Secretary of the European Company Law (ECL) Journal published by Kluwer Publications. He is also an Attorney at law (Greece).

He was awarded the “Cyprus Research Award-Young Researcher (2014)” of the Research Promotion Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus (category of ‘Social Sciences & Humanities’). This distinction was awarded on the basis of his research on Takeovers and Mergers and was accompanied by a research grant. He is the Project Coordinator of the Research Project “Takeovers and Mergers in European, Cypriot and Greek Company Law”, which is financed by the Research Promotion Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus.

Previously, he was a Lecturer (2011-15) and an Assistant Professor (2015) in Commercial Law at the Department of Law of the European University Cyprus. He was an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Regional Economic Development, University of Central Greece. During his studies, he was Scholar of the A.G. Leventis Foundation, Scholar of the University of Oxford, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Scholar(Scholarships of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affars), Scholar of the Despotidou-Tsagka Foundation, Greece and Scholar of the Greek Foundation of State Scholarships(IKY). He was a part-time law lecturer at the Law School, University of Buckingham and a law tutor at the Oxford University Programme for Undergraduate Studies(OPUS), University of Oxford. He also taught at the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science, University of Piraeus. Additionally, he was Academic Student Coordinator of the Financial Law Discussion Group, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. Moreover, he acted as an assistant Legal Advisor (LEGAD) for the NATO Deployable Corps Headquarter at Thessaloniki, Greece (NDC-GR). He participated in workshops of the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument (TAIEX) managed by the Directorate-General Enlargement of the European Commission.
