Ο Δρ Βασίλειος Βαβουράκης, προτού ενταχθεί στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών και Κατασκευαστικής, εργάστηκε ως Διακεκριμένος Ερευνητής και Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου University College London (2013-2017), ως Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής και Ερευνητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (2010-2013) και ως Μεταδιδάκτορας Ερευνητής στο Ίδρυμα Τεχνολογίας κι Έρευνας (2008-2010). Κατέχει Διδακτορικό Μηχανολόγου Μηχανικού (2006) και Δίπλωμα Αεροναυπηγού Μηχανικού (2001) απονεμηθέντα από το Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών. Η επιστημονική ειδικότητα του Δρ Βαβουράκη είναι στη μηχανική συνεχούς στερεού μέσου καθώς επίσης στη μαθηματική και υπολογιστική μοντελοποίηση προβλημάτων εφηρμοσμένης μηχανικής κι εμβιομηχανικής. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εκτείνονται από τις υπολογιστικές μέθοδους και μοντελοποίηση μέχρι τη μελέτη μη-γραμμικών ελαστικών σωμάτων, συστημάτων της βιολογίας και τη βιοιατρική. Ως εκ τούτου το ερευνητικό όραμά του είναι η σύνθεση πρωτότυπων μεθόδων μοντελοποίησης με απεικονιστικές τεχνικές με κατεύθυνση τη προ- και διε-εγχειρητική υποστήριξη μέσω υπολογιστή, καθώς επίσης τη διερεύνηση της παθοφυσιολογίας ανθρώπινων ασθενειών υπό το πρίσμα του μηχανικού. Before joining UCY's Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Department, Dr Vasileios Vavourakis was a Senior Research Associate and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the University College London (2013-2017), a Visiting Lecturer and Research Associate at UCY (2010-2013), and a Postdoctoral fellow at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (2008-2010). He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2006) and a Diploma in Aeronautics (2001), both awarded by the University of Patras, Greece. Dr Vavourakis can be followed online at:

Dr Vavourakis scientific expertise is in continuum solid mechanics and biomechanics, and in mathematical and computational modelling in engineering and bioengineering. His research interests span from scientific computing and modelling to nonlinear solids, systems biology and medicine. Hence, his long-term research vision is to amalgamate modelling with imaging technologies towards personalized pre-operative planning and intraoperative decision making, as well as investigate the pathophysiology of cancer and other diseases.
