Charalambos A. Charalambous holds an Associate Professor position within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Cyprus, as of January 2016. Prior to his UCY appointments, he was with the High Voltage Research Centre of the University of Manchester. His academic qualifications include a first Class B.Eng. Degree in E.E.E from UMIST, U.K in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Manchester in 2006, which was sponsored by the prestigious O.R.S award scheme and Intertek. He is currently acting as an expert member in the International Standardisation Committee, ISO/TC 67/SC 2/WG 24 for the development of the Technical Standard 21857 "Petroleum, Petrochemical and natural gas industries —Prevention of corrosion on pipeline systems influenced by stray currents".

He is the founder and leader of the Power Systems Modeling Laboratory (PSM) at the University of Cyprus.Highlights of his research and consulting work include:

  • Investigation of Metal Fusion and Gas Leakage Incidents on DESFA Natural Gas Pipeline, due to Direct Lightning Strikes (For the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator – 2018).
  • AC electromagnetic interference evaluation for a proposed subsea development with an armoured umbilical in the same trench with a Carbon Steel Pipeline (For Intertek UK - 2017).
  • Assessment and Mitigation Design for the effects of electromagnetic interference on Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) caused by HV AC traction Systems and HV/MV AC power supply Systems. (For the Design & Construction Consortium of TAP - 2016)
  • Stray Current Corrosion Performance of Concrete and Steel Sleepers on the tram train project between Sheffield and Rotherham (For Intertek UK -2016)
  • Stray Current Control and Monitoring Design of Thessaloniki’s DC Metro System (For the Design & Construction Consortium of Thessaloniki’s Metro System – 2011).
  • Investigation of Main Protection Mal-operation due to Phase-to-earth fault on 275 kV Gas Insulated Busbar (For National Grid UK, 2008)
