Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Cyprus. The disciplines of electrical, electronic and computer engineering are constantly creating new technologies that revolutionize modern society. Our role at the ECE Department of UCY is to be a significant part of this process, through the education of future engineers and the creation of new knowledge. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs of study leading to B.Sc., M.Sc./M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. In parallel, we have strong and internationally visible research activities that are well-funded and cover a wide spectrum of topics. Our department in a few words:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) was established in 2003. In a relatively short period of time we have managed to establish high quality research, teaching and outreach activities. As of September 2018, we have 18 full-time academic staff, and this number is projected to rise over the coming years. We currently have approximately 100 postgraduate students and 350 undergraduate students. Our ethos is to aspire to excellence, and our students are a vital part of this. In the first fifteen years of our existence, our faculty was awarded more than 100 research projects and grants in these fields, with a combined budget of over 50 million euros. This funding success continues, and is vital to our future aspirations to be a leading center of ECE in Europe.
We are fortunate to have a good blend of up-and-coming junior faculty along with senior faculty that have extensive experience in various prestigious universities. All our academic staff are active researchers, with their work being published in leading journals and conferences, and a strong commitment to research-led teaching. The international visibility of our staff is also reflected in the large number of citations they receive and the prestigious positions they hold, such as Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors of leading journals and presidents-elect of IEEE technical societies.
