Undergraduate Studies

Profile of program
The Department covers the traditional areas of Civil Engineering such as structures, building materials, earthquake engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, transportation, hydraulics as well as environmental topics such as management and protection of water resources, air pollution, and management of solid and liquid waste.

The program is based on building strong foundations in Mathematics, Physics and Mechanics during the first two years, which are necessary for studying the advanced topics that follow. During the third year, the students undertake applied courses in the field of civil and environmental engineering. The fourth year offers students the flexibility to choose from a wide array of courses in civil engineering and environmental engineering according to their individual interests. Additionally, the fourth year includes the thesis (capstone design project), the subject of which covers each year a wide spectrum of areas within the discipline. With the successful completion of the program requirements, the student is awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Key Learning Outcomes
After the completion of studies, the student should be able to:

  1. Plan, analyze and design civil engineering works,
  2. Supervise and manage civil engineering construction projects,
  3. Perform environmental impact studies.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduates of the program can practice the profession of civil engineer. The Bachelor's Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering is fully recognized by the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (STCC), enabling the holder to become a member of STCC and thus obtain the license to practice civil engineering. The graduates can be employed in the design, construction and maintenance of civil engineering projects (buildings, infrastructure) in the private sector as well as in the public sector.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates of the program may continue their studies at postgraduate level in the following fields: structural engineering, earthquake engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, energy and sustainable development, petroleum engineering, construction management, transportation engineering, coastal engineering.
