Βασικό αντικείμενο της ερευνητικής μου δραστηριότητας είναι η νευροφυσιολογική διερεύνηση των διαταραχών ύπνου-αφύπνισης (π.χ διαταραχή συμπεριφοράς στον ΡΕΜ ύπνο, υπνηλία/κόπωση και η αντίληψη τους (perception)  σε ασθενείς με νευροεκφυλιστικά νοσήματα και κυρίως στη νόσο του Πάρκινσον. Η μεθοδολογία της έρευνας περιλαμβάνειτη χρήση ειδικών ερωτηματολογίων, συμπεριφορικά τέστ και νευροφυσιολογικά εργαλεία (πολυυπνογραφία και ειδική ηλεκτρομυογραφία). Παράλληλα, συνεχίζοντας τη συνεργασία μου με το Πανεπιστήμιο της Βέρνης μελετώ την επίδραση του εν τω βάθει εγκεφαλικού ερεθισμού (deep brain stimulation) στις διαταραχές ύπνου σε ασθενείς με νόσο Πάρκινσον αξιοποιώντας και νευροφυσιολογία αιχμής (ενδοκράνες ηλεκτροφυσιολογικές καταγραφές).

My research focuses on the neurophysiology of sleep-wake disturbances (including REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, sleepiness and sleepiness perception, fatigue and apathy) in patients with neurodegenerative disorders and mainly in those with Parkinson's disease. Research methodology includes the use of specific questionnaires, sleep-wake diaries, behavioral tests, wearables (advanced actigraphy) and sleep neurophysiology (polysomnography and special EMG protocols, MSLT, MWT). In parallel, further pursuing research collaboration with the University of Bern, I study the impact of deep brain stimulation (DBS) on sleep-wake functions in patients with Parkinson's disease that undergo DBS surgery.
