Ο Μιχάλης Φ. Πέτρου είναι Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Πολιτικών Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Περιβάλλοντος του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου από το 2004. Πριν από το διορισμό του στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, έχει διατελέσει Αναπληρωτής/Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο University of South Carolina, Η.Π.Α. και Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλίας, Ελλάδα. Έχει πάρει δίπλωμα από το Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, Ελλάδα το 1987 και Μάστερ και Διδακτορικό από το Case Western Reserve University, Η.Π.Α. το 1991 και 1993 αντίστοιχα. Έχει διατελέσει Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος για τρία χρόνια. Τα αντικείμενα εξειδίκευσης του συμπεριλαμβάνουν τα δομικά υλικά, πειραματικές μεθόδους και τον εργαστηριακό και επιτόπου έλεγχο των κατασκευών. Έχει συγγράψει πάνω από 135 ερευνητικές δημοσιεύσεις, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και 58 σε διεθνή περιοδικά. Έχει εξασφαλίσει χρηματοδότηση πέραν των €5.3 εκατομμυρίων για 38 ερευνητικά προγράμματα. Του απονεμήθηκαν διάφορα βραβεία όπως τα A.S.E.E. Southeastern Section Outstanding Teaching Award, 2001 και James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award, Chi Epsilon Southern District, 1999.

Profile Information

Michael F. Petrou has been a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus since 2004. Prior to this appointment, he worked as an Associate/Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina, U.S.A., and as an Associate Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece. He served as the Chair of the Department for three years. He received a Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece in 1987 and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, U.S.A. in 1991 and 1993 respectively. His area of expertise includes building materials, experimental methods, and laboratory and field testing of structures. He has been the author/co-author of more than 135 research publications, including 58 refereed journal publications. He received more than €5.3 million in research funding for a total of 38 projects. Prof. Petrou received several awards including the A.S.E.E. Southeastern Section Outstanding Teaching Award, 2001, and the James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award, Chi Epsilon Southern District, 1999.
